Term Recap | Plans For Next Year | New Ideas

Summer Newsletter 2026

Hello everyone, we hope you're enjoying the summer and eagerly anticipating the upcoming term just as much as we are.

Here is our summer newsletter which has lots of important information about the year ahead. Additionally, we'll be posting this message on the notice board section of the Members Hub on our website, making it easily accessible for future reference.

Summer Concert

Our end of year Musicals Concert was a big hit with over 100 singers and the hot weather didn't put off well over 200 audience members who came to listen. It was a wonderful occasion with solos, duets and small groups performing alongside the larger choir. It was inspiring to see everyone singing with so much commitment and energy, one of our most uplifting concerts - well done to everyone!

Profit raised after expenses came to a whopping £2,800 which was split equally between our two charities - The Thomas Ball Children's Cancer Charity and Dreamflight.

Click button below to see our latest Charity Post with responses from both charities

Choir Podcast

After a brief pause (about 5 years!), the My Town Choir Podcast is back!

Listen to episode 1 of season 2 where Bob & Jo discuss the past year, new things for next term and a behind the scenes look at running a choir.

Looking Ahead

So it's on to the Autumn Term now which culminates in the usual festive Christmas songs that we love singing. As we have spent the past couple of terms honing our Musical Theatre skills, it's time to return to the choral world and we will be learning 'Sing Gently' by the American composer Eric Whittaker. It was written for The Virtual Choir during lockdown and has a lovely message. Click HERE for a sneak preview.

As you know, we were approached by the Choir Of Man to perform at their first night on tour at the Wycombe Swan Theatre. So, we will hit the ground running by learning 'Chandelier' by Sia. See the article below for more details.

Another new piece for later in the year will be 'Peace Song' by the New Zealand composer Dorothy Buchanan. This beautiful piece has a wonderful message. You can hear a charming version of it by clicking HERE.

We'll also enjoy the usual mash ups and fun pieces throughout the term to ensure that everyone can pick up new music easily including the Beatles 'Eight Days A Week' and a great version of 'Donald Where's My Trousers'. (With apologies to any of our lovely Scottish members!)

A comprehensive list of music to bring to rehearsals will be emailed at the end of the Summer.

Just a plea - we are licensed to print out just one copy of each piece per choir member so please do bring all the relevant music with you to every session!! (or maybe use a tablet!)

Going Digital & Exciting New Website Features For Autumn!

Last term, a few of us—including Jo and Bob, trialled using tablets for our sheet music instead of printed paper. It worked even better than we had hoped! Because of its success, we want to support anyone who would like to give digital sheet music a try during the upcoming Autumn Term.

We have a new "Sections" Area on the Website to make finding your music easier. These have a dedicated link on the Members Hub (just where the old Sheet Music link was)

Instead of searching through pages filled with sheet music and recordings for every voice type, you can now head straight to pages tailored specifically for Sopranos, Altos, Tenors, or Basses.

Here is what you’ll find on your section page:

  • All your sheet music in one place: Quick and easy access to your specific files.

  • Tailored audio playlists: Every recording you need for your voice part, without having to scroll past the others.

  • Seamless practicing: You can leave your section playlist running from track to track while practicing at home, without stopping to search for the next piece.

Have a look by clicking the button below

First, a quick reassurance: going digital is completely optional! We will always provide printed sheet music for anyone who prefers paper.

For those interested in trying it out for themselves, Jo and I use an app called Mobile Sheets.

It’s a brilliant tool that lets you view your sheet music and attach practice recordings directly to each piece. You can listen to your track while reading the music, all in one app on a single screen.

You can download it for both Apple and Android devices by clicking below

How to get started:

  1. Create a new folder on your tablet or device.

  2. Download your sheet music and practice recordings from your Section page on the website into that folder.

  3. Import those files into MobileSheets.

Bob is more than happy to walk anyone through the setup at the start of term. If you have any specific questions in the meantime, feel free to drop him an email!

Remaining Sessions

If you would like to check how many sessions you have left to start the new term with, please drop us an email and we'll let you know.

Music Licenses

As it is the beginning of a new year of making music, it is time to renew our music licenses. Each license costs just £7 and enables us to print one copy of each piece per choir member which is great value for the whole year. Please pay via the online shop.

My Town Choir Terms & Conditions

If you haven't already done so, please do take a few minutes to read the choir T&Cs which can be found at the top of the member's area of our website. New members are directed there when they first sign up and join. It gives lots of information about how the choir is run and how we all get along.

We are really looking forward to seeing you all again soon!

All the best,

Jo & Bob x
